The 79th Skeptic’s Circle is in…and we’re in it!
The 79th edition of the illustrious Skeptic’s Circle is here, authored by our own illustrious reporter, Kylie Sturgess!
Go check it out…but come straight back to us…of course!
The TANK Vodcast receives a special mention too…
Richard at TAM5.5!
Something that you may not realise – Richard Saunders, co-host of the TANK Vodcast, is a very versatile man.
He got himself a starring role at TAM5.5 (and probably the biggest laugh of the conference) by Skyping Phil Plait, just as Phil began his presentation in Florida this Saturday!
Suddenly, up on the big screen came the following:
[10:41:26 AM]
Richard Saunders: OMG!! What is that in the sky??? AHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhnnnn
Yes indeed. Even from thousands of miles away in Sydney, Australia – Richard knows how to steal the show.
Big thanks to Phil Plait for passing on this brilliant bit of info – and you MUST check out his site www.badastronomy.com!
The Joys of Editing
The First TANK Vodcast for this year is almost ready. I’m slaving over a hot computer to edit all the reports I have for the show. The job is going well with a few setbacks as my PC thinks it can sometimes close programs without saving the work first.
Stefan Sojka has sent his video report via ftp from the UK which took me sometime to download and convert, but so what? It’s amazing that he can film something on the other side of the planet and get to me for the show!
We were filming yesterday in Sydney suburb of Enmore outside a popular pub called ‘The Sly Fox’ as reporter Michael Wolloghan asked the question, “What is a Skeptic?” I think you’ll find some of the answers an interesting insight into what the general population in Sydney think about us. You’ll see that not everyone even knows what the word ‘Skeptic’ means! It’s at times like these when my little Flip Video Cam comes in very handy. My other camera is HUGE and can scare people off talking.
A day before that, Michael and I filmed the intro to the show at Circular Quay with the Sydney Opera House in the background. It was a hot! I mean sun-burning hot! And it took us 3 takes to get it right. Oh well, it was good fun and we thank Montag and Catherine for helping us on the day.
Show 1 still on track for Feb 1!
Filming Starts Today – 27th Jan 2008
Filming of the intro and wrap-up of the new TANK Vodcast starts later today in Martin Place or Pitt Street Mall here in Sydney.
Joining Richard Saunders as co-host for this episode will be new reporter, Michael Wolloghan. Michael is filling in for regular co-host Stefan Sojka who will be sending in a video report from the UK as he looks for ghosts!
If you are in down town Sydney around launch time, come over and say hello! You might even end up in Michael’s report on “What is a Skeptic?“
The first episode is due for release on the 1st of Feb.
Richard Saunders – Reason Driven!
Richard Saunders of The TANK Vodcast is the special guest for Episode Twelve of the Reason Driven Podcast!
“You may have seen him on the news as a lone voice of reason, or seen his TANK Vodcast videos on youtube.com. He also heads up the Mystery Investigators, a science based variety show targeted to kids and teens. If that’s not enough, he’s an origami expert.”
The Reason Driven podcast is one of the most creative podcasts online – taking the text ‘The Reason Driven Life – What am I Here on Earth For?‘ by Robert M. Price and interviews a range of scientists, media-mavens, musicians, artists, astronomers, comedians, philanthropists and podcasters – and so many more! Interrogating what it means to have faith, to live a life that is based on rationality and questioning, this podcast takes both the serious and light-hearted approach in the face of fundamentalist gloom.
Richard and hosts Danny Schade and Mikyle Lockwood discuss and debate Chapter Twelve, on ‘Providence and Superstition’. Enjoy the look at fundamentalist cliches, rhetoric and a hilarious take on ‘the divine stalker’ nature of God! Don’t forget to download all the other eps, on their site www.reasondriven.blogspot.com
