  2. I just rediscovered the Tank and I’m delighted that the podcasts now synch up with iTunes. I just watched my first Vodcast. The Psycho person being interviewed was interesting but where is the skepticism? Is there a place where we can go to discuss and dissect what’s going on? I wouldn’t really know where to start. She makes so many claims that it would take ages to actually address them all. If we could have a discussion forum then perhaps as a group we could take a stab at it.

    Good work - keep it up.

  3. Absolutely Jack - how about here? I’ll see about asking Karen ’skepbitch.wordpress.com’ Stollznow if she’s cool if I do a transcript and we can nut it out here in the next blogpost. We could discuss it quite easily in the comments.

    There’s also the Facebook group for TANK - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7535239458

    Thanks for getting in touch! :)

  4. Hi there Jack,

    That’s an excellent question! While I think it interesting and important to interview skeptics, I equally find value in interviewing those with paranormal, pseudoscientific, supernatural, occult and religious beliefs, to elicit and canvass their points of view. Unfortunately, in a five to ten minute interview, hard-hitting, deep-probing questions can’t be treated in great depth, so in this medium (excuse the pun) these people can explain their beliefs and practices for us. My investigations (www.bad-language.com) involve in-depth research and analysis, and I personally like the different take on the paranormal/pseudosceintific in this format.

    Many are reluctant to talk to skeptics, fearing ridicule, scorn and negativity, so I’m pleased to be able to provide a platform for them to share their perspectives, and where we can use comments sections such as this to discuss the interview itself. Look at this interview as thought-provoking ‘news’ that incites discussion. You’re right - in this interview there are many points to tackle…

    A forum is a good idea too - let’s see what we can do!

  5. Jack, great question. I think in the future we will have more along these lines with hard questions, but I also think it’s important that everyone can see things from the “Psychic’s” point of view. Why do they believe they have magical powers? If we hear what they have to say, we might have a better idea.

  6. Here’s the best response I can make to the issue of ‘why look at psychics, et al’: The Digital Cuttlefish - http://www.digitalcuttlefish.blogspot.com

    The Natural State of the Featherless Biped

    The natural state of the featherless biped
    Is totally batshit insane,
    From the folks who are “tetched”, to the mere “barking mad”
    To the ones even Freud can’t explain.
    Some talk to themselves, some talk to “the voices”
    And others to “god, up above”
    Some know there are bugs living under their skin,
    And some (pity them) are in love.

    A clear diagnosis is hard to obtain
    When we’re characteristically odd.
    Just look at behaviors most people call normal
    Like talking and listening to god;
    If you claimed you were talking to Satan himself
    They would probably lock you away;
    But instead, choose a different invisible friend
    And the doctors all think you’re OK.

    Some point to religious folks flocking like pigeons,
    With atheists more solo fliers—
    And say this to friends who have gathered together
    With Dawkins, or Randi, or Myers.
    Of course, there are differences, none could deny,
    But a few similarities, too.
    We follow our leaders, a true social species
    As nature selects we should do.

    When Dennett says memes can take over our heads,
    Make us willing to die for some god;
    I look at the hooligan soccer-fan riots–
    Devotion no longer seems odd.
    The vestments and hats of the Orthodox Church
    Are a spectacle worthy of mention,
    But some secular groups may be equally gaudy—
    Just check out a Star Trek convention!

    It’s good to examine abnormal behavior
    (Whatever “abnormal” might mean)
    Just remember, we’re usually seeing ourselves
    In the things we’re surprised to have seen.
    We like to point fingers at somebody else
    For the troubles, today, that we face;
    But don’t point at others; the problem is us—
    We’re the batshit-insane human race.
